Our History

Global Youth Network has been working with local universities, churches, and youth groups for over a decade, putting together teams and taking them on short term trips across Latin America, Africa, and the Balkans. Our founding director, Dave Skene, had been leading teams of young people on trips around the world for many years with other organizations, before starting Global Youth Network in 1996. Global Youth Network started out very small, with Dave and a small group of other Christian youth workers banding together to begin a few projects aimed at challenging young people to use their lives to change the world into a better place. These projects included a group of high-school students going on a volunteer trip to Latin America, a comedy troup, a mime troup, and a 6 month training course dealing with faith and global issues.

Over the years there have been many changes. As the high-school students on that first trip grew older and went on to university, they began to lead trips of their own with Global Youth Network, and we now send out over two hundred university and high school students each year to various countries around the world. From the University Teams Program, Global has had the privilege to be involved in long-term development projects in various countries.
