Global Teams

Who are we looking for?

Creating a new generation of leaders who care about the world.

Global Youth Network gives young adults the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective. Each year we put together teams from many of Canada's universities and regions to travel to developing countries for the month of May.

Our Teams

Small teams comprised of young adults travel for the month of May to various regions of Central and South America, Northern Canada, USA, Eastern Europe, Africa and South Asia. While abroad, the teams participate in a variety of volunteer activities with locally based humanitarian organizations while learning about the culture and the social, political, economical and physical challenges faced by local residents.

What do we do?

On these trips, we place special emphasis on building relationships between the team members and the local people based in the Global South. Through our partnerships we aim to build bridges at a grass-roots level between people from the North and South, between privilege and poverty. We believe that as students develop a critical awareness of global issues and create relationships with people from a different socio-economic status, they will be motivated to engage with their communities both at home in Canada and abroad.

What is your favourite memory?

Standing on a church roof in Acapulco in the pouring rain.
-Nathan Leis Steckley, Hamilton

Would you go again?

Yes. The world no longer seems quite so big and other people and countries no longer seem so different. People are the same everywhere but our living situations are not. First hand experience of this fact has motivated me to reach out in a way I never have before!
-Sarah Vandermolen, Jordan

How has this affected your World View?

Material wealth doesn't mean happiness.
-Brian DeWolf, Moffat

What did you learn?

I learned that being a shark in the ocean is a heck of a lot more exciting than being a goldfish in a bowl…Live Life!!
-Tara Tracey, Kapuskasing
