Aboriginal Program

The goal and purpose of this program is to contribute to sustainable development and poverty reduction for indigenous communities in the Americas. By bringing indigenous communities together, we believe they can more effectively lobby for their objectives and rights as Aboriginal peoples. One of the primary focuses of the program is education related to understanding indigenous rights. It is imperative that this generation of indigenous men and women have an understanding and be brought into dialogue about their rights as related to the United Nations Draft Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Bringing people together will also help to facilitate economic initiatives, as without connection to other indigenous groups it will be difficult for creative ideas related to economic development to flourish.

Another important aspect of this program involves establishing long-term relationships of solidarity between different groups who have historically been faced with similar injustices. These long-term relationships will encourage the exchange of education, resources, advocacy and opportunity. Bringing groups together will help foster development partnerships and joint ventures between indigenous youth and give them a greater understanding of the need for connection to develop partnerships that will continue on into their futures.
