Global Youth Network Mission Statement

Vision

Global Youth Network is a Christian non-profit organization that has two objectives: justice education in the Global North and transformational development in the Global South. Our activities are twofold: first to educate Canadian young people towards a critical awareness of justice issues, and second to support long-term transformational community development projects both nationally and internationally towards the end goal of eradicating poverty.

Mission

We achieve this through:

• expressing a faith based on the example of Jesus, and that honours God by striving to live more simply and sustainably, sharing the earth God has given us equally among all.
• providing opportunities to travel, be educated and get involved in the world
• modelling the importance of egalitarian relationships in making the world a better place for everyone

Values

We express our faith through relationship-based spirituality, believing that our relationships (with God, Humanity and the natural world) are the true foundations of spiritual life. We attempt to live out the values Jesus modelled: values such as love, compassion, reconciliation, forgiveness, acceptance, trust and justice.

We encourage the creation of communities, both local and international, that model compassion and understanding. We also hope to establish long term ongoing relationships with those communities we are involved with. Using a holistic approach (encompassing physical, mental, spiritual and emotional aspects of people and issues), we come together and attempt to work alongside God in bringing about reconciliation and justice in our world.

We seek to understand the injustices of our world by listening to those who have been affected. Where power structures are unbalanced we hope to be a part of restoring justice through education and action, and by building new equitable relationships.
