Current ProjectsGlobal Youth Network Around the WorldOur focus nationally is to educate youth by raising awareness of social injustices and creating a critical analysis of social, political, economic and cultural injustices both in Canada and abroad. Presently in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia, we facilitate justice education workshops for high school and university students as well as organize experiential cultural exchanges abroad for both student groups and Aboriginal communities across Canada. Similar workshops are available for adult groups. Our focus internationally is to address root causes of poverty, homelessness and landless people through long term commitments to transformational development projects in communities that we are developing mutually beneficial relationships with. Nationally and internationally, we support local organizations working to address root causes of poverty, homelessness and displacement through committing to transformational community development projects that promote sustainable economic, social, cultural and political change. Attention is also given to locations where emergency relief is needed. How Does Global Decide to Work and Partner With?First of all, it is Global's desire that trips will each have the following three components: Educational opportunities (learning about indigenous issues, history, politics, social situations, environment, agriculture, health, etc.), Physical opportunities (the chance to use your hands and your bodies to help) and Work with Children. Secondly, we really like to work with organizations that were either started by nationals or at least run by nationals. Thirdly, we want to work with organizations who are interested in maintaining connection with us and with who it is possible to maintain a long-term connection. Fourthly, for trips where teams visit and work with multiple organizations, we would like at least one of the organizations to be faith-based. Finally, we must ensure that any money given to the organization is used to cover the costs of hosting the team and that our programs are able to benefit their community development projects and not benefit any one individual. To find out about the projects we work with in a particular country or part of the world, click on the country name in the left-hand column. As the annual number of teams grows, so does our need to expand to new locations and new projects. This is an ongoing development, requiring a long-term commitment. In addition to the locations listed, Global is presently investigating new opportunities in a number of places. Stay tuned for updates. |
