Current ProjectsMexicoIn Mexico, our teams work in and around the area of Mexico City (or "D.F." as it's known by the locals), one of the largest cities in the world. Global Youth Network has been sending teams to Mexico every year since 1996, and has established working relationships with local organizations there. At the Salvation Army Orphanage in Cuernavaca, our teams help to care for the children and play games with them, giving much needed relief to both the children and the staff who care for them. Also in Cuernavaca, teams spend time with Por un Mejor Hoy, an organization with a similar mission to Global--wanting to see travellers learning from locals--and who facilitates local volunteerism. With HOY, teams have participated in a ravine clean-up, landscaped a school, worked with an At-Risk Youth Centre and its programs as well as visited local orphanages, community centres and a centre for the blind. In recent years, teams have expressed interest in the protection of the sea turtles and have volunteered on the Colima coast with GAPEC in this project. |
