Current ProjectsVenezuela Global Youth Network has been sending teams to Venezuela since 1997. In San Sebastian de los Reyes, about two hours by bus from the capital city of Caracas, the teams stay and volunteer at Casa Hogar, a community of 4 children's homes run by Youth With A Mission. Casa Hogar is home to about 40 orphaned children, attended by a dedicated staff of about 8 adults. Just by playing with the children and being a part of the community, the team members are a vital moral and practical support to the staff of Casa Hogar. Also near Caracas is the Ninos de la Luz home where team members similarly help out in any way needed with the children. Teams travel to Puerto Ayacucho, our gateway into the Venezuelan Amazon. Deep in an indigenous village, the team participates in projects of growth as well as teaching people how to read, math, English and religious studies. The contrast of the village lifestyle with that of the Canadian student is great--a definite learning experience. |
