Current ProjectsPeruWorking with Peruvian non-governmental organization, DEHUJANM, teams traveling to Peru are introduced to the lived realities of the diverse populations of Lima and beyond. DEHUJANM hosts foreign travelers through their 'Solidarity Tourism' project in which they offer the opportunity to meet with local organizations, youth groups and populations to discuss both the positive and negative facing these groups. DEHUJANM seeks to encourage dialogue and equitable relationships amongst host and foreigner. DEHUJANM connects Global teams with organizations giving participants the opportunity to visit health clinics, programs for Working Children, schools, after-school programs, and local artisans. Groups also tour city centres, local markets and Peruvian 'hot-spots' allowing for an integrated experience of what Peruvian life entails. Profits from these trips are reinvested into micro-credit loans for youth, community projects and local partnerships. Experiences in Lima and Arequipa through DEHUJANM are very educational for Global teams and to complete our holistic approach, teams also work with Una Familia, an American organization who, through established relationships, supports local development and building projects in both rural and urban settings. Teams have worked with the small indigenous community of Cai Cay outside of Cuzco since 2005 with their ongoing construction of a Children's Centre. |
