Macedonia

In beautiful Eastern Europe nestled between Vodno mountain and the Vadar river lays the city of Skopje, Macedonia’s capital. Two hours south of Kosovo, Skopje has become the home of refugees fleeing the civil conflict in the 1990’s. While in Macedonia, teams work in Skopje as well as other smaller cities, with AGAPE (Association for Generosity and Active Promotion of Empathy), a connection Global has maintained since 1997. AGAPE is a local humanitarian organization that provides relief and development for refugees, women, children and cultural minorities including the Roma population. Through AGAPE, teams have volunteered with a women’s shelter, a health clinic, a soup kitchen, refugee camps, churches, Roma youth recreational activities, a Roma squatter community and various cultural festivals. A beautiful country with a rich history to share, Macedonia offers an excellent opportunity for teams to learn about this unique culture while extending help to a well-connected grassroots organization.
