Thailand

Thailand is a large and diverse country with many opportunities for Global teams.  Beginning in Bangkok is a must and our partner organization Youth With a Mission Thailand provides an orientation to the city and to the culture.

Since the tsunami of 2004, our interest has been in the southern province of Phang Nga, where we work alongside YWAM and their partners helping to rebuild homes, listening to the many stories of the locals, playing with children, cutting hair and teaching English classes.  While many of the homes in this area have now been replaced, many people are still without fishing boats and ways to make their living.

Our teams travel to northern Thailand as well and many orphanages for HIV/AIDS children are in the cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.  Since 2007, teams have worked with Where There is Not a Doctor in the hills around Chiang Rai.  Dr. David of WTINAD has been working to improve the quality of life for those peoples living in the hills and Global teams have been involved with his work in building sanitary toilet facilities.

Global is particularly interested in those people seeking refuge in the hills from nearby Myanmar and will begin sending one of our “Thailand Teams” to partner in this region with Compasio.
